First, she takes her work as a teacher very seriously. She listens, listens every moment to what her student is doing. She gives you tools to get from point A to B, and if you do them, you will get to where you want to be. Her presence is calming, not critical. But make no mistake: She doesn’t miss a thing. For instance, once I asked her to not let me get away with anything to deter me from bringing out my best voice. Wow!!! She really listened. I had one of those lessons recently where the light bulb goes on. And she said, “Now you’re gettin’ it!”

I have been wanting my voice for years to sound a particular way, and no teacher I had prior to Christa told me: this is the way your voice is: light, lyric soprano and you’ll never sound like this: full, lyric soprano because anatomically, you cannot produce that sound. Your voice is more crystalline, sparkly, light…” As soon as she said that, it forced me to think of producing that kind of voice, discarding my false preconceptions. I gave it a whirl and sang a phrase using my real-voice- after-all  and we were both teary eyed. I’d done it! Of course there’s lots more to do to improve and have it all be second nature, but because of Christa, I am finally going in the true direction. One cannot put a price on that…

But for me, the thing that keeps bringing back to her studio is her humanity. Difficult to find someone who cares so very much about every single thing you are doing with your voice, who you are as a person, as well as her love for every living thing…why, just look at her garden!

Christa has really expanded my knowledge of piano chords. One of my main goals in starting piano and voice with Christa was being able to play chords on the piano and sing at the same time. I feel like I have accomplished that and now she is teaching me to build piano parts from the chords. Christa is a very kind and positive teacher and lessons are always fun! She is always supportive of my song choices and is quick to provide the sheet music! I am really happy to be part of her studio.

“Christa is such a wonderful teacher. She helped me expand my vocal range in my voice and made it have a fuller and broader sound. I had a successful audition in getting into the music program at Sonoma State University because of her. I appreciate everything she has done for me and I hope one day to be a teacher just like her.”

"Christa’s teaching methods are formidable. She weaves in her own experience and knowledge in music together with how the students learn best. Our weekly sessions have always been something to look forward to, as she shapes every lesson around my needs. She helped push me to expand my musical horizons, introduced me to many new venues, and pushed me out of my comfort zone.

She has helped me perfect my songwriting and, because of her work with me, I am now auditioning for AGT and YoungArts and play regular gigs around the county. She always has vocal/music tips up her sleeves, and always makes sure to give you the information/criticism you need to figure it out on your own. Her positivity and welcoming attitude always makes my day, and I cannot think of a more willingly adaptive and flexible individual as she."
